Coupling nuts, also known as extension nuts, are threaded fasteners used for joining two male threaded rods. The exterior of this fastener is typically a hex so a wrench can hold it easily. JM Hardware® carriage bolt has a square shoulder under a rounded head which resists turning when the nut is tightened or removed. They are good for wood-to-wood connections when the head may not be accessible for tightening.
