SS304, also known as Stainless Steel 304, is one of the most widely used stainless steel alloys for fastener production. It is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance and durability. Key Properties of SS304:
Corrosion Resistance:
SS304 contains a minimum of 18% chromium and 8% nickel, which gives it strong resistance to corrosion. It forms a protective layer of chromium oxide on its surface that prevents rusting and protects the material from corrosive elements. This makes SS304 ideal for use in environments where the fasteners will be exposed to moisture, acidic substances, or other corrosive chemicals.
High Strength and Durability:
SS304 fasteners offer good mechanical properties, such as high tensile strength, excellent toughness, and the ability to withstand significant wear and tear. This makes them suitable for both heavy-duty industrial applications and general construction.
Heat Resistance:
SS304 fasteners can resist oxidation in temperatures up to about 870°C (1600°F) and can maintain strength at both low and high temperatures, making them a good choice for environments that experience frequent temperature fluctuations.
Non-Magnetic Properties:
SS304 is non-magnetic in the annealed condition, which makes it valuable for applications where magnetic interference is a concern. However, it may become slightly magnetic after cold working.
