Manufacturing Services of Cold Heading Bolts at JM Hardware®
Cold heading is one of two ways of making a bolt from a piece of metal. The other is through screw machining, which involves simply cutting away material from a piece of metal until you are left with a shape that you can then add threads and a head to. As you can imagine, this is a process that can result in a lot of waste, particularly if you do not make an effort to recycle some of the material that has been produced after the process. However, it’s still one of the commonest and cheapest ways of making fasteners.

On the other hand, cold heading involves forcing a piece of metal into the desired shape without taking away any material. In a way, you can think of it as a form of molding, only that you use metal instead. The major benefits of using this manufacturing method is that you will be left with very little waste material at the end.

Turning is a form of machining, a material removal process, which is used to create rotational parts by cutting away unwanted material. The turning process requires a turning machine or lathe, workpiece, fixture, and cutting tool. The workpiece is a piece of pre-shaped material that is secured to the fixture, which itself is attached to the turning machine, and allowed to rotate at high speeds. The cutter is typically a single-point cutting tool that is also secured in the machine, although some operations make use of multi-point tools. The cutting tool feeds into the rotating workpiece and cuts away material in the form of small chips to create the desired shape.

Hot Forging: It is the process of forming the shape of the metal in hot condition into a predetermined shape. 
A metal is heated to the proper temperature by high-speed electric induction before it is inserted into a metal piece. 
Bolts are hot forged when the material is too large in diameter or it is not malleable enough.
Sheet Metal Stamping Process at JM Hardware®
The process of turning sheets of metal into a useful part or component is called sheet metal stamping. The metal is fed into a press, where the stamping tool, also known as a die, creates the desired shape. The die is pressed into or through the metal with tremendous force. The force used in the process is measured in tons.Except for some specialized processes, sheet metal stamping doesn’t use heat. Instead, it is done with a cold-forming technique. Even though no heat is used, the part can come out hot because of the friction that’s created between the metal and the die from the force of the press.
